Where did you come up with this idea?
People have been taking photographs of nature and architecture for as long as the sun has been rising in the east and setting in the west, at least while the camera was around. Somewhere along the way someone saw a Model T and decided to build a Ferrari… we’re kind of like a jacked-up Volvo. Long answer short, we took a great idea and localized it to take advantage of the beauty found all over Pittsburgh.
How do you spot the letters in your surroundings?
"Letter Spotting" as we have affectionately come to call it, can be as obvious as seeing a "T" in the cross of a church, or take hours and hours of looking for that special "K". Actually, spotting letters forces you to take very long, deliberate walks and soak in things you normally wouldn’t. It can sometimes take four to five hours to find a particular letter. If you see us staring at a wrought-iron fence for half an hour, please don't call the police.
What neighborhoods are you going to offer?
We have started with a handful of neighborhoods and will roll them out weather and time permitting. We will also entertain special requests. If there is a particular neighborhood that you like, but you may be looking for a special image in that neighborhood... a special tree, or a building, or something that is meaningful to you or the recipient, email us and if we can make it happen we will.
Do you offer your photos in any other format (framed, gatorboard,etc.) or size? Yes. Send us an inquiry and we will send you a quote. What if I’m not happy with my purchase?
Bottom line is that if you aren’t happy we aren’t happy… seriously. We didn’t start a business to put out a lousy product. If you don’t like it, return it and we will refund your money, period, end of story.
Can I just buy the individual photographs?
Yes. Individual photographs are $6 each plus postage. Just send a request and we will try to be accomodating.I've spotted some cool letters of my own, will you pay me for them? If we like them, yes. We want to encourage creative collaboration from photographers, professional or hobbyists, in our communities. The photos will be treated as "work for hire" so we will own them in the end, but we will pay you for photos that are submitted, screened and accepted by our jury of critical eyes. Email us and we can discuss price. Can I copy your photos and use them freely without paying for them?
NO! See, this is the part where we have to pay someone like $200 an hour to write some scary language about the “unauthorized use of photographic images…” etc., etc. Seriously, just don’t do something that you think you shouldn’t be doing and everything should be fine.
